The Cape Sable has a solid, hand laid fibreglass hull. Her bulkheads and cabin structure are cored with Kerdyn structural high density foam. No exterior wood ensures ease of maintenance. Use of 3” Hollow D non-marking rubber rub rail at gunnel, transom & quarter guards protects the hull.
A draft of just over 3 feet allows for near shore exploring, a fine entry and beam to length ratio of 1:3 assures more offshore comfort, even in rough seas.
Refinements to the highly respected and well proven Cape Islander concept were few - a clean continuous sheer, subtle tumblehome, a lengthened hull to give not only a swim platform for easy boarding but to increase this full displacement hull’s waterline length and so too her speed. The swim platform which is not a bolt-on after thought also makes for a very safe and easy stowing of a tender without the need for davits or a crane in a following sea.
The recessed cabin-top grab-rail makes going forward easier. At the bow you will find a deep, comfortable anchoring well. Not only does this provide a secure position to handle the anchor and dock lines from, it also serves as foot well to foredeck seating providing a spectacular location to enjoy the ride and view.
The layout and detailing of the accommodations reflect years of live-aboard cruising experience combined with a career of building custom cruising yachts - everything is where it should be, the boat is clean, open and bright throughout.
The enclosed master cabin forward features an island berth with reading lights and fans. The cabin has ample natural light and ventilation via, port lights, large overhead hatch and door designed to allow air to pass while providing privacy.
Up in the main cabin the dinette lowers to create a second double berth.
Stateroom standing height 78"
In the engine room you will find just that : an engine and room. High performance lead / fiberglass sound insulation, soft engine mounts for lowered vibration and sound and a flexible coupling keep the engine’s noise out of the accommodations.

Industry reports an average use of a pleasure boat between 150-200 hrs. Multiply those figures by the vessel’s average fuel consumption to calculate how much fuel you will use per season. The Cape Sable will burn less than a single 94 gallon fill-up per season. Not bad!
Turning to range: using 8 knots as the long-run cruising speed at 1.25 gph gives the standard Cape Sable a range of 600 nautical miles. With optional larger tanks and 200 gallons board this increases the range to 1280 nautical miles. A Nova Scotia owner of a Cape Sable can say, “Bermuda, here we come!”
* At 1600 rpm cruising at 6.5 knots the Cape Sable Yanmar 4JH110 engine burned 0.45 liters in ten minutes. For a full hour the fuel consumption would be: 2.7 liters/hr or 0.71 gph or 0.59 Imp. gph. Or 9.15 nautical miles per US gallon or 10.7 miles/Imperial gallon.
*At 2000 rpm cruising at 8 knots the Cape Sable prototype burned 0.8 liters in ten minutes. The hour equivalents: 4.8 liters/hr or 1.26 gph or 1.055 Imp. gph. Or 6.36 nautical miles per US gallon or 7.58 nautical miles/Imperial gallon.
*These results are slightly better than the YANMAR engine specs
